Organize a side event addressing women’s pathways to social development
Thematic component - Organized by UNESCO, in partnership with the African Union (AU) and the Government of Angola under the theme “Honoring the Past, Valuing Achievements, and Building the Africa We Want,” the Biennale aligns with the African Union’s 2025 theme, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations.”
Online expert group meetings have been carried out in the Africa, Asia, LAC regions and Nordic countries reaching over 80 experts to identify regional priorities and perspectives. A brief for each consultation has been developed and disseminated widely to inform the WSSD consultations. Paving the Way Towards the Second World Summit for Social Development: Perspectives from the Arab Region
Organized by ESCWA and UNRISD, the meeting will bring together a wide range of stakeholders such as experts, activists, researchers, and academics to present Arab perspectives on inclusive development, justice, poverty eradication, decent work, climate adaptation, digital transformations, social contract renewal, and other pressing development issues. The outcomes of this dialogue will contribute to the Summit through a policy brief summarizing regional insights and proposals, in line with similar consultations in other world regions.
Seminar on Inequality ECLAC-IADB
Regional seminar to analyze the multiple dimensions of social inequality in LAC, as an interinstitutional discussion to feed the regional proposals on inclusive social development to be considered in the WSSD2.
This event focuses on economic well-being and its intersections with sustainability and equity, offering perspectives that align with the WSSD2’s overarching goals.
Briefing on the Asia-Pacific preparations for the Second World Summit for Social Development in 2025 during the Eighth Committee on Social Development, 8-10 October 2024. This multi-stakeholder special event provided an overview on the proposed plan for preparations for the World Social Summit 2025 in Asia and the Pacific and discussed social development issues of importance to the region, including on decent work, demographic trends and intergenerational relations, gender equality, the care economy, and social protection.
