La Deuxième Conférence mondiale sur le développement social offre un éventail varié de possibilités de participation pour les individus et les organisations souhaitant contribuer au dialogue mondial et à l’innovation. Les participants pourront prendre part à des tables rondes stimulantes, à des ateliers interactifs et à des séances de réseautage conçues pour encourager la collaboration intersectorielle. Le sommet offre également une vitrine pour des projets et recherches novateurs, permettant aux leaders d’opinion de partager leurs idées et de susciter un changement significatif. On the sidelines of the 51st Session of the Arab Labour Conference, convened by the Arab Labour Organization (ALO) in Cairo, the ILO and the ALO hosted a discussion on WSSD2 that brought together over 100 government, employer and worker representatives from the Arab region, including the Ministers of Labour of Qatar, Lebanon, Tunisia, the Occupied Palestinian Territory and Yemen. The discussion, held under the patronage of the State of Qatar and in collaboration with the Executive Bureau of Councils of the Ministers of Labor and Ministers of Social Affairs in the countries of cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf, aimed to ensure that the Arab region plays a strong and substantive role in shaping the global social development agenda. The session focused on Arab States’s contribution to shaping a new global social contract grounded in social justice.
This follow-up event will review progress made since the 2021 UNFSS and align actions with the 2030 Agenda. The findings can help shape discussions at the Summit by highlighting global progress in food systems transformation and areas requiring further action. the UNFSS+4 will take place in Addis Ababa, 28-30 July 2024
The second meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group on Housing will provide a significant contribution toward shaping discussions for the World Social Summit in addressing the basic needs and dignity of the approximately 3 billion people who do not have adequate housing. The thematic priorities identified during the first session —such as data collection, multi-level governance, financing for housing and informal settlements, land tenure security, and climate resilience—are directly aligned with the core objectives of the Summit to address inequalities, promote social inclusion, shared prosperity and ensure sustainable development. By providing a dedicated forum for Member States to discuss these critical issues, the Working Group can offer actionable insights and proven solutions that highlight the central role of housing in achieving social development goals. These dialogues focus on ensuring the Right to Food in conflict settings, proposing actionable solutions. The findings can directly feed into the Summit's focus on addressing food insecurity during crises.
Organized by FAO, this series explores how the Right to Food can be realized in urban contexts. Outcomes will provide valuable insights for the Summit on addressing food security challenges in urban settings.
