The application period for special accreditation to participate in the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2) is now open and will run from 28 April to 13 June 2025.

Convened by the United Nations General Assembly in accordance with resolution 78/318, the Second World Summit for Social Development will bring together governments, civil society, and other stakeholders from around the world to forge a renewed global consensus on inclusive, equitable, and sustainable social development.

Who Should Apply?

Special accreditation is required for all non-governmental organizations, civil society groups, academia, the private sector, philanthropic foundations, and other relevant stakeholders not already accredited to the UN. This includes organizations without consultative status with ECOSOC or those not holding observer status at the UN General Assembly.

Please note: Accreditation from other UN conferences does not transfer automatically to WSSD2. A separate application must be submitted.

Who Is Exempt?

The following entities do not need to apply for special accreditation:

  • Member States
  • United Nations system entities and related organizations
  • Organizations in consultative status with ECOSOC
  • Intergovernmental organizations with observer status
  • UN Secretariat offices

What Is Required to Apply?

Organizations must submit the following:

  1. Expression of Interest – A signed letter on official letterhead from the organization’s head, requesting accreditation.
  2. Proof of Legal Status – Government-issued documentation (e.g., certificate of incorporation or 501(c)(3) designation).
  3. Activity Report – A summary of relevant activities undertaken by the organization in the last 12 months related to social development.

Application Review and Approval

All applications will be reviewed by the United Nations Non-Governmental Liaison Service (UN-NGLS). Eligible organizations will be submitted to the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA) for circulation to Member States on a non-objection basis. Final approval will be announced once the review is complete.

Please note that special accreditation does not automatically register individuals for the Summit. A separate registration process for accredited organizations’ representatives will open in due course on the official Summit website.
