Report of the Secretary-General to the Commission for Social Development
The Commission for Social Development will hold its 50th session on 1-10 February 2012. A report of the Secretary-General entitled "Second review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, 2002" (E/CN.5/2012/5) was issued and is available online. The report provides a preliminary assessment of the second review and appraisal of the Madrid Plan, including information about the regional preparations for the second review and appraisal, as well as regional and national policy developments subsequent to the first review and appraisal cycle of 2007-2009.

Comprehensive report on the "Current status of the social situation, well-being, participation in development and rights of older persons worldwide"
The UN Focal Point on Ageing issued an e-publication entitled "Current status of the social situation, well-being, participation in development and rights of older persons worldwide". The report focuses on the social and economic well-being of the ageing population, documenting the demographics of older age, reviewing the economic situation of older persons, exploring health-related issues, and examining societal perceptions and the social integration of older residents. In addition, the report provides an overview of human rights norms as they pertain to older persons.

Draft resolution of the General Assembly on ageing
The UN General Assembly agreed on a draft resolution "Follow-up to the Second World Assembly on Ageing", which awaits final adoption.
