Persons with disabilities over the world have persistently faced barriers to their full inclusion and participation in the life of their communities. The UN flagship Disability and Development Report, produced in 2018 and 2024, demonstrates ways that persons with disabilities are at a disadvantage regarding most Sustainable Development Goals. Concrete action is needed to include the world’s one billion persons with disabilities – 16% of the world population and 1.3 billion people – as both agents and beneficiaries of development.
In line with the 2030 Agenda and the CRPD, the report identifies good practices and recommends urgent actions to be taken for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by, for and with persons with disabilities by 2030. The report aims to place disability squarely at the centre of the sustainable development agenda. It reviews the current situation and progress made so far towards the SDGs and shows that efforts need to be accelerated to ensure that the goals and targets are achieved for persons with disabilities.
