Capacity-building workshop to support national policy responses to issues of ageing in Asia and the Pacific
The Technical Cooperation Unit together with the UN Focal Point on Ageing and the ESCAP Social Development Division conducted a "Capacity-building workshop to support national policy responses to issues of ageing in Asia and the Pacific". The Workshop, held at the ESCAP Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand from 28 February to 1 March 2012 brought together 32 Government officials and other stakeholders from some of the less developed countries of the region to consider issues pertaining to older persons and demographic ageing. The overall objective was to increase countries' capacities with regard to developing, implementing and evaluating policies for older persons, including mainstreaming techniques in the context of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. In addition, the regional review and appraisal of the MIPAA was discussed.

On 8 March 2012, the International Women's Day, The Hilton Foundation announced that HelpAge International won their annual prize. This prestigious prize signals that global demographic ageing is increasingly understood and work on this issue is more appreciated and supported.
