Strengthening Social Inclusion: Highlights from CSocD63

The 63rd Session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD63), held from 10 to 14 February 2025, focused on advancing global commitments to social inclusion, resilience, and solidarity in alignment with the Copenhagen Declaration on Social Development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
 

The Commission’s discussions focused on:

  • Strengthening Social Cohesion and Inclusion: Addressing inequalities and enhancing social protection systems to foster sustainable development.
  • Reviewing the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing: The session set the modalities for its fifth review and appraisal, ensuring better policies for ageing populations.
  • Empowering Youth: A dedicated resolution on youth policies and programs highlighted their critical role in social development.
  • Social Dimensions of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD): A resolution focused on tackling poverty and fostering economic opportunities in Africa.

The session featured ministerial forums, high-level panel discussions, side events, and interactive dialogues with representatives from governments, civil society, and UN agencies. Topics ranged from social protection policies to the role of the social and solidarity economy in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
 

The outcomes of CSocD63 will inform the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2), reinforcing commitments to inclusive policies and global solidarity. The Commission also adopted the provisional agenda for its 64th session, ensuring continuity in addressing key social challenges. CSocD63 reaffirmed the importance of social resilience and inclusive development, paving the way for stronger international cooperation in achieving social justice for all.
