Theme: Revitalizing Rural Development: Pathways to Inclusion, Resilience and Sustainable Prosperity
Date: 6 July 2025

World Rural Development Day (WRDD) 2025 marks the first official observance since its proclamation by the UN General Assembly in 2024. With nearly half of the world’s population living in rural areas—where poverty rates remain alarmingly high—this year’s theme calls for bold, inclusive approaches that empower rural communities and drive sustainable progress.

The 2025 observance will spotlight solutions that ensure equitable access to services, strengthen resilience to climate and economic shocks, and mobilize investment in rural economies. From digital connectivity and green energy to agroecology and local leadership, the Day will showcase innovations helping to transform rural lives.

Celebrated online through multilingual social media campaigns and virtual storytelling, WRDD 2025 aims to raise awareness, inspire action, and reinforce the message that sustainable development cannot be achieved without rural development.

Let us work together to ensure no one is left behind—especially those furthest behind in rural communities.
