Published in March of this year, “Beijing +30: From words to Action” is a five-part policy paper series produced by UN Women under the ACT to End Violence against Women Programme, a transformative partnership with the European Union. The series was released as part of the 30-year review of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, offering governments and stakeholders guidelines for accelerating efforts to end violence against women and girls. Each paper focuses on a key area for change:

  • Prevention: Addressing root causes and risk factors to stop violence before it occurs
  • Data and research: Strengthening evidence through ethical, comparable data systems
  • National action plans: Designing whole-government, multisectoral frameworks with clear budgets and accountability
  • Support services: Ensuring coordinated, survivor-centered responses, and access to justice and essential services
  • Women’s rights organizations: Investing in and enabling feminist movements as drivers of sustainable progress

The series required thorough global consultation, focusing on transforming normative standards and tools to turn political promises into real, tangible results: words into action.

It highlights that bold investments, robust data, comprehensive policies, and the leadership of women’s rights organizations are crucial to achieving meaningful change. Through their important topics, these papers will equip United Nations Member States and NGOs with the steps necessary to implement prevention measures, strengthen services and institutions, and protect the rights and dignities of all women and girls.
