Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future

This #WorldFoodDay (16 October), we call for united global action to build a peaceful, sustainable, prosperous, and food-secure future. This is an achievable goal: one that depends on our collective commitment across governments, organizations, sectors, and communities.
Food and nourishment are fundamental human rights, yet they remain under threat. Today, nearly 673 million people suffer from hunger, even as obesity and food waste expose the deep imbalances in our global food systems. Conflicts, extreme weather events, economic shocks, and inequality continue to strain the land we cultivate, the water we rely on, and the biodiversity that sustains life.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), a milestone that underscores the urgent need for renewed global collaboration. Together, we can create a world where everyone has access to a healthy diet and can live in harmony with our planet.
Throughout October, World Food Week in Rome will feature a wide range of events and activities offering opportunities to learn, engage, and take part in the global movement for food security and sustainability.
To celebrate this important day, FAO invites everyone to participate in events happening around the world and to join the conversation online using the hashtags #WorldFoodDay, #FoodHeroes, and #FAO80.
