Corruption fuels inequality, weakens institutions and limits access to education, jobs and public services. These impacts fall heavily on young people, who often experience the consequences first in their schools, workplaces and communities. With 1.9 billion young people worldwide, supporting them as partners in the fight against corruption is essential for a fairer future.

Youth at the center

A global youth essay competition in 2024 showed how corruption restricts opportunity and erodes trust in justice and public institutions. Young people also expressed a strong desire to promote transparency and accountability in their communities.

The 2024 to 2025 campaign builds on this momentum. It highlights young guardians of integrity who raise awareness, share lived experiences and propose practical solutions that address corruption where it affects them most. The 2025 campaign will continue featuring their perspectives, including the links between corruption and organized crime, the role of emerging technologies and the connection between corruption, peace and security.

Technology and education for integrity

Artificial intelligence, blockchain and other emerging tools can help prevent and detect corruption when proper safeguards are in place. Young innovators are already using these technologies to increase transparency and improve reporting systems. Education also plays a key role in strengthening a culture of fairness and equipping youth to uphold ethical standards.

A global commitment

The United Nations Convention against Corruption, adopted in 2003, remains the foundation of international efforts to promote accountability and good governance. With 190 parties committed to its principles, the Convention continues to guide progress toward corruption resilient societies.

A shared purpose

International Anti-Corruption Day, taking place on December 9th, calls on governments, civil society, the private sector and young people to work together for a future where corruption does not block opportunity or undermine trust. By listening to youth and supporting their leadership, the world strengthens its collective ability to build transparent and accountable institutions.
