On 4 November 2025, the General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/80/5, formally endorsing the Doha Political Declaration of the “World Social Summit” — the Second World Summit for Social Development. Through this resolution, Member States reaffirm the enduring relevance of the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action and commit to renewed global efforts to eradicate poverty, promote full and productive employment and decent work for all, and advance social integration.

The resolution places the Doha Political Declaration at the centre of the UN’s social development agenda, establishes a five-year follow-up process beginning in 2031, and strengthens the role of the Commission for Social Development in reviewing progress. It also calls on the UN system, regional commissions, and international financial institutions to enhance cooperation, policy coherence, and support for developing countries.

Adoption of this resolution marks a historic milestone—translating the vision and commitments of the Second World Social Summit into a unified mandate for global action to build more inclusive, equitable, and resilient societies that leave no one behind.
