The Report of the Secretary-General for the General Assembly Seventieth session (A/70/84) provides an overview of the implementation of the outcome document of the high-level plenary meeting of the General Assembly known as the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples, held in September 2014 (General Assembly resolution 69/2); an update on the development of a system-wide action plan to ensure a coherent approach to achieving the ends of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples; recommendations on how to use, modify and improve existing United Nations mechanisms to achieve the ends of the Declaration; and specific proposals to enable the participation of Indigenous Peoples’ representatives and institutions at the United Nations.
The report is informed by responses received from Member States and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations and representatives to a questionnaire circulated in accordance with a request by the Secretariat.
The report also takes into account information received in the context of the fourteenth session of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, held in May 2015.
