As the UN Secretary General and Club de Madrid Member, António Guterres put it, “we must tackle the devastating social and economic dimensions of this crisis, with a focus on the most affected”. Traditionally marginalised and vulnerable social groups cannot be left outside the reach of public health efforts or the contagion will find a repository for continued spread. Their specific needs must also be addressed in economic resilience programmes, or they will face impoverishment and even starvation. Club de Madrid, the largest forum of democratically elected Heads of State and Government promoting democracy and good governance, and the UN Division for Inclusive Social Development at the Department for Economic and Social Affairs, organised this side-event of the High-Level Political Forum focusing in the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
