Report of the Secretary-General to the 68th session of the General Assembly
The most recent report of the Secretary-General entitled “Follow-up to the International Year of Older Persons: Second World Assembly on Ageing” (A/68/167) has been issued and is available in all official languages of the United Nations. The report examines three key priority areas for implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, based on the global outcome of the second review and appraisal of the Plan of Action held during the most recent session of the Commission for Social Development: access to decent work and employment for older persons, elder abuse and violence, and older adults and mental health.

The fourth session of the Open-ended Working Group on Ageing was held from 12-15 August 2013 at UN headquarters. .

International Day of Older Persons 2013
The International Day of Older Persons will be observed on October 1, 2013. This year's theme is “The future we want: what older persons are saying”.

Expert Group Meeting on Neglect, Abuse and Violence of Older Women
The UN Focal Point on Ageing will convene an EGM on 5-7 November 2013 in New York on this topic. The meeting aims at exploring various definitions, forms, prevalence and risk factors of neglect, abuse and violence against older women. In addition, the meeting will analyze the effectiveness of preventive measures to address the issue.
