During the event, DESA Population Department delivered a presentation on its recently launched "Highlights on World Population Ageing 2015 Report." The event concluded with updates from the Chair of the General Assembly's Open-ended Working Group on Ageing on recent developments in protecting and promoting the rights of older persons. The most recent report of the Secretary-General entitled “Follow-up to the International Year of Older Persons: Second World Assembly on Ageing" (A/70/185) has been issued and is available in all official languages of the United Nations. The report provides an analysis of how the existing agenda for ageing and older persons fits within the framework of the post-2015 development agenda, including the
sustainable development goals. It focuses on six issues that have direct relevance to the post-2015 development agenda from an older person’s perspective: poverty, health, gender equality, employment and decent work, inclusive cities and environmental emergencies. The report also provides updated information on recent developments on ageing from the regional commissions. The report concludes with recommendations for ensuring that no older person is left behind in the implementation of the post-2015 development agenda.
