Upcoming 13th Conference of States Parties to the CRPD to address older persons with disabilities

The 13th session of the Conference of States Parties to the CRPD is taking place this year on 30 November 2020 (in-person meetings: Opening and the election of the CRPD Committee members) and 1 and 3 December 2020 (virtual meetings: roundtable discussions, the interactive dialogue with the UN system and the closing). The 13th session will devote Round Table 2 to "Addressing the rights and needs of older persons with disabilities: ageing and demographic trends". Round Table 2 is co-chaired by Liberia and CSO. The background document for this Round Table was jointly prepared by the Programme on Disability Section and the  Programme on Ageing Unit of the Division for Inclusive Social Development (UN DESA). Round Table 2 will take place on December 1st, 2020, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm (EST- New York Time) and can be accessed via UN Web TV.  

On 1st December, from 1:15 to 2:30pm (EST - New York Time), a virtual side event entitled "Our Rights under threat as we grow old: A timely expert discussion on the intersection of disability and age"  will bring together three high-level speakers: the UN Independent Expert (IE) on the Enjoyment of all Human Rights by Older Persons, Ms. Claudia Mahler, the newly appointed Special Rapporteur (SR) on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Gerard Quinn and the Chair, CEO & Co-founder of the Dementia Alliance International (DAI) Ms. Kate Swaffer, for a dynamic moderated discussion and an interactive discussion with the audience.
