Objective
"Social Integration" is the priority theme of the 2009-2010 review and policy cycle of the Commission for Social Development.
Social integration is a dynamic and principled process in which societies engage to advance social development. The aim of social integration is to create a society for all based on non-discrimination, tolerance, respect for diversity, equality of opportunity, solidarity, security and participation of all people irrespective of race, class, age, ethnicity, cultural background, political and religious beliefs and other differences.
The objective of the Expert Group Meeting on ‘Promoting Social Integration’ was to provide the Commission with an independent expert opinion on the priority theme. Topics discussed ranged from the existing frameworks and approaches to social integration to ways and means to develop national capacities for promoting social integration.
