This year, the World Day of Social Justice will take place on 17 February 2011 from 10:00 am to 12:15pm at the United Nations Headquarters, Conference Room 2 (NLB). The theme this year is "Achieving Social Protection for All".

Agenda

The World Day of Social Justice (WDSJ) was declared by UN resolution A/RES/62/10 in November 2007 and is celebrated annually on 20 February. The resolution invites all Member States to devote this special day to the promotion of concrete activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the World Summit for Social Development.

Overview of the World Day of Social Justice

The General Assembly proclaimed 20 February as World Day of Social Justice in 2007, inviting Member States to devote the day to promoting national activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the World Summit for Social Development and the twenty-fourth session of the General Assembly. Observance of World Day of Social Justice should support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity and access to social well-being and justice for all.

In order to increase awareness of social development issues and the importance of this international day, and in light of the rise of social media as a key means by which people are interconnected, this year, in collaboration with our colleagues at the ILO, we are spreading the word through a Facebook page.
