Welcome to the United Nations
The 63rd session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD63), held from 10 to 14 February 2025, concluded with a focus on addressing systemic challenges such as poverty, hunger, and social exclusion. The Commission underscored the importance of gender equality, human rights, and the promotion of social cohesion as fundamental to creating just and inclusive societies.
In anticipation of the upcoming Second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, from 4 to 6 November 2025, the Commission emphasized the Summit as a pivotal opportunity to realign global priorities and renew collective commitment to social development. The need for structural reforms, promotion of quality employment, elimination of technological barriers, and the establishment of resilient social protection systems were highlighted as essential steps forward.
During the session, the Commission adopted five resolutions, including:
- Strengthening solidarity, social inclusion, and social cohesion
- Policies and programmes involving youth
- Modalities for the fifth review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, 2002
- Future organization and methods of work of the Commission for Social Development
- Social dimensions of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development
These resolutions aim to advance social development and justice through coordinated, equitable, and inclusive policies.
