Launch of the World Social Report 2025: A New Policy Consensus to Accelerate Social Progress

The United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) and the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU WIDER) will launch the World Social Report 2025 on Thursday, 24 April at 12:00 p.m. EDT at the Bahá'í International Community Office in New York. The launch event, held in person and online, will present the report’s key findings under the theme “A New Policy Consensus to Accelerate Social Progress.”

Amid a rapidly changing global context, the 2025 edition of the report calls for renewed efforts to advance inclusive development and social justice. It outlines practical policy recommendations to address persistent inequalities and social fragmentation, while enhancing resilience in the face of global shocks.

Building on evidence and country experiences, the report emphasizes the need for coordinated social, economic, and environmental policies that place people at the centre. It advocates for universal social protection, quality public services, and inclusive institutions as foundational elements of a renewed social contract.

The launch will feature remarks from senior UN officials, policy experts, and civil society partners, offering a platform to discuss how the proposed policy shifts can be translated into action at global, regional, and national levels.
