The regional Expert Group Meeting on Demographic Change and Ageing of Population in Asia, organized as part of the preparations for the IYF+30, brought together experts to share, discuss, and explore the issue of the rapidly ageing societies in the region in the context of the megatrend of demographic change. The meeting was organized by the Centre for Family and Population Research, National University of Singapore, the Consortium of Institutes on Family in the Asian Region (CIFA), Sau Po Centre on Ageing, University of Hong Kong in cooperation with UNDESA. The experts and practitioners analyzed the impact of demographic changes, in particular ageing, on families and their wellbeing. The meeting focused on issues relating to demographic change and ageing such as intergenerational solidarity and support, prevention of ageism, promotion of age-friendly/all-inclusive communities through advocacy and raising of public awareness. Multi-sector collaboration on care and support and the role of industry and social innovation as well as the importance of policy infrastructure and development of relevant initiatives/measures was also addressed.
