As part of the preparations for and observance of the International Year of the Family + 30, the Regional Expert Group Meeting for Asia “Families and Megatrends: Interlinkages between migration, urbanization, new technologies, demographic trends and climate change” took place in Putrajaya, Malaysia, 28-29 February 2024. The meeting was organised in partnership with the Doha International Family Institute, the National Population and Family Development Board , Malaysia (LPPKN), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), and the International Federation for Family Development (IFFD). The meeting addressed the interlinkages between megatrends noted above from a family perspective.
It focused on the ways to achieve inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities for families; it analyzed strategies for optimizing the benefits of technology while minimizing its drawbacks on family relationships; it explored the policy lessons learned from Asia that can be applied globally, and the potential contributions of global experiences to the Asian context and offered recommendations for future family policy development in the region and beyond.
