On Wednesday, 16 July 2025, policymakers and global experts will gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York for a high-level side event during the 2025 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development. The event, titled "Reducing Insecurity, Promoting Decent Work: A Renewed Vision for Social Development" , will take place from 13:15 to 14:30 in Conference Room E.
Co-organized by UN DESA, Portugal, and Colombia, this timely dialogue will explore how countries can promote full employment and decent work for all—key priorities of the 1995 Copenhagen Declaration—and address persistent economic insecurity and labour market inequalities.
The event will feature the launch of key findings from the upcoming World Social Report 2025: A New Policy Consensus for Social Progress, which highlights the urgent need to reverse trends in precarious employment, informal work, and exclusion from the labour market—particularly affecting women and youth.
This side event comes at a pivotal moment as the global community prepares for the Second World Summit for Social Development, to be held in Doha, Qatar, from 4 to 6 November 2025. The discussions will help shape a renewed global consensus on social development anchored in equity, decent work, and inclusive economic policies.
