The Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing (OEWGA) was established by the General Assembly by resolution 65/182 on 21 December 2010. The working group will consider the existing international framework of the human rights of older persons and identify possible gaps and how best to address them, including by considering, as appropriate, the feasibility of further instruments and measures.
This year, the Seventh Working Session of the Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing will be held on 12 -15 December 2016 at UN Headquarters in New York.
Humankind has achieved unprecedented social progress over the past decades. Poverty has declined dramatically across the world and people are healthier, more educated and better connected than ever before. Yet, progress has been uneven. Social and economic inequalities persist and, in many cases, have worsened.
On 19 September 2016, the UN General Assembly will host a High-level Meeting at UN Headquarters to address large movements of refugees and migrants, with the aim of bringing countries together behind a more humane and coordinated approach.
