General Assembly (GA)The General Assembly is one of the six main organs of the United Nations, the only one in which all Member States have equal representation: one nation, one vote. All 193 Member States of the United Nations are represented in this unique forum to discuss and work together on a wide array of international issues covered by the UN Charter, such as development, peace and security, international law, etc. In September, all the Members meet in the General Assembly Hall in New York for the annual General Assembly session.

The report provides an analysis of the impact of population ageing, among other global trends, on the future of work. The report explores pathways to guarantee economic security in old age by highlighting challenges and opportunities in the promotion of employment among older adults. It also features selected work carried out by the United Nations system on older persons in its response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The report concludes with key recommendations for consideration by the Assembly.

The report provides an overview of the situation of persons with disabilities, including in the light of the global response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) crisis, recovery and building back better towards an inclusive, accessible and sustainable world. The adverse impact of the COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated pre-existing inequalities, exposing the extent of exclusion experienced by persons with disabilities and the imperative that the disability inclusion should be an integral part of crisis response, recovery and building back better.

In the report, the Secretary-General reflects on progress made by Member States, the United Nations system and other stakeholders in implementing and monitoring the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development for persons with disabilities. He…

In the report, the Secretary-General reviews the progress made, including by the United Nations system, in implementing the Third United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (2018–2027), examines gaps and challenges in that regard, and the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. The report concludes with a set of recommendations.

The report is focused on recent family policy trends, mainly in the areas of gender-sensitive social protection, work-family balance, gender equality and family homelessness. Good practices in family policymaking by Governments, United Nations entities and civil society are also highlighted.

The report underscores the need to strengthen international cooperation for social development, with particular attention to universal and equitable access to education and health care, and to advance progress in the achievement of the objectives set forth at the World Summit for Social Development and in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The report identifies existing gaps and challenges and outlines strategies to align international cooperation to support national policies and strategies to accelerate progress. The outcomes of the fifty-seventh session of the Commission for Social Development are also highlighted in the report, which concludes with policy recommendations for consideration by the Assembly.

The report provides an analysis of ageing-related policies and priorities in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as reported in the voluntary national reviews presented at the high-level political forum on sustainable development in the period 2016–2018. The report highlights key issues and existing normative frameworks, as well as
challenges and opportunities in responding to the rights and needs of older persons in emergency crises. It also presents updates on advances in issues related to ageing and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda within the United Nations system. The report concludes with key recommendations for consideration by the Assembly.

The report provides an overview of the progress achieved in the implementation of the resolution, with a focus on the following three issues: employment and entrepreneurship, health and well-being, and addressing inequalities and marginalization. The report was prepared on the basis of input received from Member States and relevant United Nations entities. The report concludes with key recommendations for consideration by the Assembly.

The focus of the present note is the effects of major global trends – specifically technological innovation, climate change, urbanization and international migration – on inequality. The examination provided, including the policy recommendations on how to manage these trends equitably, encompasses the main findings of the forthcoming World Social Report.

The report is focused on reducing inequalities through the empowerment of all and the promotion of social, economic and political inclusion, social protection, inclusive and lifelong learning and other measures for advancing social integration. Highlighted in the report are good practices in inclusive policy-making at the national and international levels.

The report reviews progress made in eradicating poverty, including the response of the United Nations system to the theme of the Third United Nations Decade for the Eradication of Poverty (2018–2027). The report also contains recommendations on ways to make the Third Decade effective, in support of poverty eradication-related internationally agreed development goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The report contains an examination of the current state of rural poverty and the gaps and challenges to eradicating it, especially in developing countries, as well as recommendations for overcoming the numerous gaps and challenges.
