The 2025 VNR Synthesis Report prepared by UN DESA’s Division for Inclusive Social Development examines how family-oriented policies have contributed to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), based on 171 Voluntary National Reviews submitted by 141 countries between 2020 and 2024. It adopts a multidimensional analytical framework that integrates socioecological models, welfare regimes, redistributive approaches, social investment, and gender responsiveness to assess family wellbeing across key SDG areas such as poverty reduction, health, education, gender equality, and urban development. The migration of persons represents one of the most important social phenomena of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Closely linked with migration is the rapid urbanization that is occurring in so many parts of the world. As migrants leave rural lifestyles seeking opportunities in cities, urban areas are growing at an exponential pace. Both trends have profound effects on family life, family relationships, and family practices. Policies and programs that support migration and well-planned and well-managed sustainable urbanization are closely related to the successful realization of the United Nations Agenda 2030 and the embedded Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).…

The United Nations Workshop on Technology and Families was held in Dublin, Ireland from 6 to 10 October 1998. The Meeting was organized by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, Division for Social Policy and Development, in close cooperation with the Government of Ireland, Department of Social Community and Family Affairs, and in association with Quest Campus.
