Always Included Uninterrupted education for children with disabilities before, during, and after a crisis

New HI Report:Always Included Uninterrupted education for children with disabilities before, during, and after a crisis

In the challenging contexts of 27 low and middle-income countries where Humanity & Inclusion and its partners operates, we've observed that maintaining the continuity of education is of utmost importance, especially during transitions from emergencies to post-crisis situations. Children and youth with disabilities are disproportionately affected by interruptions in education services, and this issue is often exacerbated for girls with disabilities.

This report sheds light on the imperative need for education systems to become more inclusive and resilient, capable of delivering uninterrupted education in all settings and circumstances. Indeed, in a world marked by multiple and simultaneous shocks, protracted crises, and the effects of climate change, inclusive education should not be a response reserved for optimal and stable conditions but should be a fundamental, unwavering commitment embedded in education systems.

Based on testimonies, case-studies, and key-informant interviews, the report delves into the critical aspects of continuity of learning, teaching, and financing. Its recommendations are a call to action for all stakeholders (governments, development and humanitarian donors, and civil society organisations) to prioritize inclusive education as a crucial component of their coordinated and coherent responses.
