Asian Families: Change and Consistency

Family well-being is the root of a harmonious and stable society. Nowadays, families are being re-shaped by the enormous social changes from globalization, income disparity, ease of mobility, IT development, ageing of population, and attitude towards marriage and parenthood. With these developments, new solutions to family issues are urgently called for. Some complex family problems involve the larger social-political context that requires multilayer professional and societal involvement; and there is a need to tackle family problems with a wider perspective involving all, including researchers, practitioners, policy makers, educators, lawyers, doctors and family members.

The 5th Regional Symposium of the Consortium of Institutes on Family in the Asian Region (CIFA) is taking place in Seoul, South Korea, from 3 to 5 November 2016. The main symposium theme is "Asian Families: Change and Consistency" with eight sub-themes of strengthening the lives of Asian families through keynote speeches, plenary sessions, oral and poster sessions, Final Round Adjudication of Wofoo 3A Project 2016, workshops, and agency visit. The symposium will highlight the future of the Asian family, family happiness, and contemporary issues in parenting exploring a variety of research, policy, practice, and advocacy. Scholars, clinicians, and professionals in Asia will share and discuss their expertise, unique ideas, professional inquiries through presentations, symposia, posters, panel discussions, and workshops.
