A diverse pool of twelve talented young documentary filmmakers from India, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates compete to make the best short films that highlight some of the most pressing issues on the United Nations’ agenda. For these young filmmakers, it is truly the Chance of a Lifetime to show their stuff on a global scale.
Armed with issue briefs provided by the UN, the teams set off to make mini-documentaries on subjects such as access to water, HIV/AIDS, migration, hunger and poverty, and universal primary education.
As they progress through the early rounds, the remaining teams are provided with video footage from the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP), as well as feedback from UN experts to help them produce films with a global feel.
The winning team’s prize is a trip to United Nations HQ in New York City to screen their winning 10-minute short film, and a once-in-a-lifetime celebration at the Cannes International Film Festival on the French Riviera, hosted by Variety Magazine.
