Welcome to the United Nations
Submissions are now open for a global art campaign that aims to raise young people’s awareness of disabilities and inclusion. Led by the United Nations Global Education First Initiative (GEFI), in partnership with the Global Observatory for Inclusion (GLOBI), and the GEFI Youth Advocacy Group (YAG), the #DrawDisability campaign invites children and youth to reflect on the lives of Persons with Disabilities (PWD), through drawing.
All children and young people are invited to participate, and schools from around the world are encouraged to get involved in the campaign - which aims to highlight the accomplishments as well as the challenges that PWD have encountered in communities across the globe. A set of Teacher Guidelines have been developed to help teachers promote critical reflections and awareness of disability within the classroom. The Teacher Guidelines are now available in English, French, Spanish, and Bulgarian.
Artwork received by April 1, 2015 will be showcased at the World Education Forum in Incheon, Republic of Korea in May 2015; and at the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in New York, USA in June 2015. The drawings will also be shown on a dedicated page on the GEFI website.
Submissions will be accepted until July 15, 2015 after which date the general public will be invited to vote for their favourite drawings online. A designated jury will select thirty drawings to be exhibited at the 70th United Nations General Assembly in September 2015.
