Eradicating Poverty Through Social Innovation

12th February 2024, CSocD62 Virtual Side Event organized by the Parents’ House Public Benefit Foundation. The side event, entitled “Eradicating poverty through social innovation”, was organised in a virtual format, which provided an excellent opportunity to disseminate the key messages and good practices presented to a wide audience around the world. The event was attended by representatives of a wide range of organisations from across borders and beyond. 

The Side Event focused on social innovation as a potential tool for poverty reduction and stressed the importance of collaboration between the public, civil society, and business sectors on social issues. 

In this context, dr. Ágnes Hornung, State Secretary for Families, representing the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, delivered a welcome speech in which she emphasized the crucial role of civil society organizations in reinforcing families as the fundamental unit of society. 

Judit Regős, President of Parents’ House Public Benefit Foundation, presented the Parents’ House model programme as a social innovation aimed at supporting families as the basic unit of society at the micro level and contributing to the promotion of well-functioning societies at the macro level. 

Zsófia Nagy-Vargha, Deputy State Secretary for Youth, presented good practices and programmes of the government that support families and young people, which can contribute to poverty reduction. 

Santiago Diaz, Head of the EMEA Business Solutions Delivery Center and Managing Director of Givaudan, highlighted the importance of a socially responsible approach for a company's sustainability, beyond financial donations. He also mentioned their successful partnership with the Do Good Things programme of Parents’ House, where company employees volunteer with their families. 

The event highlighted the best practices of organizations working with Hungarian communities living outside of Hungary, which also can be considered social innovations. 

Piroska Pazaurek, Honorary Consul of Hungary in Central Florida, presented in detail the charitable and cross-border programs of the Florida diaspora that can help decrease poverty. 

Zsuzsanna Márton, President of the Association of Family Organizations of the Carpathian Basin, delivered a valuable presentation on their community organizing work aimed at bringing together Hungarians living beyond our borders.
