The 2016 Beijing Forum was held from 4 to 6 November 2016 in China under the general theme “The Harmony of Civilizations and Prosperity for All”. The Forum aims at promoting the study of humanities and social sciences around the world. It endeavors to promote academic development and social progress across the world in order to contribute to the development and prosperity of humankind. Beijing Forum believes in promoting and safeguarding the progress of the human society through the peaceful integration of civilizations.
The 2016 Beijing Forum held the first day of plenary meetings at the Diaoyutai State Guest House, with a video message from the United Nations Secretary-General and keynote speeches, including from the President of the newly-created Asia Infrastructure Investment Bank, former Prime Minister of Pakistan and a Special Advisor to the SG. Speakers highlighted global trends that may reverse globalization and rising nationalism in many countries. They emphasized the greater need for understanding, tolerance and harmony among civilizations and for shared prosperity at times like the present.
There was also a youth forum for students focusing on the social responsibility of universities.The President of Peking University closed the Forum with a call for the world’s universities to take on even greater social responsibilities to promote harmony, peace and prosperity for all.
