Co-operatives around the world celebrated International Day of Co-operatives on 4 July 2015. The theme of the day was "choose co-operatives, choose equality" and many events were held that revolved around that theme.
In Australia, the federal government announced an AUD package of $14m to support farmer co-operatives. The government did this to show that they were recognizing the need for more co-operatives to aid agricultural practices.
On International Day of Co-operatives in Barbados, credit unions were asked to embrace the co-operative enterprises. The Minister of Small Business and Industry encouraged these unions to see that they were formed by the same values that co-operatives are formed by.
In South Africa, a conference was held on International Day of Co-operatives that focused on equality. In addition to the conference, the country also showcased exhibits that raised awareness of co-operatives.
