In Nepal, focus moves from emergency response to recovery

The emergency relief phase in caring for those affected by the April Nepal earthquakes has now changed into the early recovery phase where Nepal is starting to be built up again. The transition away from the emergency phase consists of providing cash, employment, and rebuilding opportunities for people heavily impacted by the disaster.

A cash-for-work programme in areas that are accessible to markets has allowed 9,000 households to build transitional shelters and work on their fields. This has caused the revitalization of local markets.

Now with the start of the monsoon rains in Nepal, people need to focus on building these temporary shelters for protection. The World Food Programme is aiding Nepal in building these shelters and transporting resources throughout the community.
