Law Changes to Promote Cooperatives in Tanzania | Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD)

The current systems and laws of regulating the cooperative sector in Tanzania are being changed to promote vibrant, modern, and commercial cooperative societies. A cooperative desk is being formed in every ministry instead of only in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Cooperatives. These cooperative desks will speed up the promotion of cooperatives in each sector and not solely on the agricultural one.

These sectors will have the duty to initiate the formation of cooperatives and identify areas for development. This will create cooperative societies that meet global standards and the demands of the cooperative movement.

The new system will also work to sort out the poor management in some of the already established cooperatives and promote training of the members. These steps will raise awareness on the cooperative movement and promote thriving cooperative societies in Tanzania.
