On the International Literacy Day 2015, the United Nations urged governments and partners to join forces for universal literacy as a key component of reaching the new sustainable development goal. Since States will adopt a new agenda for education and development for the next 15 years, the message on the International Literacy Day this year is especially vital.

The main global celebration for the International Day took place at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on September 8, 2015.
