Millions of children will fall behind unless new UN development goals focus on most in need

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) warns on its report on child-related UN Millennium Development Goals that the global community will fail if it does not focus on the most disadvantaged children in need.

Even though significant impacts have been made, many children are still left behind. There are millions of children living in poverty, dying before they turn five, without an education, and suffering from chronic malnutrition. "We were not ambitious enough to reach those with the greatest needs,"reads the UNICEF report on the Millennium Development Goals.

The Millennium Development Goals were able to showcase the progress that has been made for children in the world, but they also have made apparent the amount of children that are left behind and the work that needs to be done. The next set of Sustainable Development Goals that will be established in 2015 are going to focus more on these disadvantaged children.
