The deliberations on the post-2015 development agenda have emphasized the need for strong monitoring and accountability. In addition to accountability at the global and national levels, there are calls for a strong focus on the regional dimension of accountability.
Against this background and upon request of the United Nations Secretary-General, the Regional Ministerial Consultation will therefore discuss the possible role of the regional level in the overall monitoring and accountability framework for the post-2015 development agenda, options for the scope and modalities of regional reviews, and the linkages with the global and national mechanisms within a multi-layered architecture.
The event is chaired by the Government of Switzerland and organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Regional UN Development Group (R-UNDG) for Europe and Central Asia.
The meeting will be a multi-stakeholder event, bringing together representatives from governments, civil society, the private sector, international organizations and academia. The views of different stakeholders collected at the meeting will provide a regional input to the intergovernmental negotiations within the UN General Assembly, as well as to the synthesis report of the UN Secretary-General on the post-2015 development agenda which will be prepared by the end of 2014.
