Interview with Gianluca Esposito, Council of Europe

Mr. Gianluca Esposito, the Head of the Equality and Human Dignity Department of the Council of Europe explains how the Council of Europe is promoting Human Rights for all, including Persons with Disabilities.

Mr. Esposito, while attending the 8th session of the Conference of State Parties on the Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which took place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York earlier this month, gave us a brief overview of the tools and mechanisms the Council of Europe is putting in use in order to shape an inclusive and equitable future with dignity for all. Its main strategies include legally binding instruments, policies and country by country cooperation as well as building partnerships with governmental and intergovernmental organizations such as the United Nations in order to align and coordinate their efforts for a holistic approach.

Mr. Esposito also mentioned that the Council of Europe, is currently finalizing its 10-year long Disability Action Plan which will, among other areas, also focus on empowering children with disabilities through new communication technologies and by maximizing accessibility and opportunities throughout Europe.
