New Addis Ababa Agenda remains focused on agriculture and rural development

The Third International Conference on Financing for Development concluded mid July in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with support for policies and actions that coincide with the new sustainable development agenda. The conference had over 11,000 participants including 18 heads of state and government, as well as ministers and representatives from governments, non-governmental and UN organizations.

The Addis Ababa Action Agenda was adopted at the end of the conference which was an agreement that providing the foundation behind the global sustainable development agenda that world leaders are expected to adopt this September in New York. The measures set in this agenda will direct public and private sector investments to a number of global challenges such as social healthcare, access to clean energy, and greater cooperation on tax issues.

The conference also put emphasis on investing in rural transformation. Senior officials and executives from government participated in a discussion that established that the second SDG- End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture has to go further by encouraging the investments required in rural transformation that will be needed to create sustainable success.
