The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) released a handbook to to establish guidelines to prevent child labour being used in the world's agricultural communities. One hundred million children around the world are forced into child labour which makes it a pressing issue that needs to be addressed.
“In recent years, we have seen an increase in awareness of child labour and its role in producing export crops such as cocoa, coffee and cotton,” said Rob Vos, Director of FAO's Social Protection Division, in a press release.
Child labour has been improved within value chains, but child labour on family farms has not been addressed. The new guide created by the FAO tries to cover these other areas. This handbook provides toolkits of research and data collection to assess child labour in agriculture.
