Persons with disabilities must play a bigger role in post-2015 agenda

On 17 August, the head of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Maria Soledad, spoke at a meeting at the United Nations in Geneva about why the needs of people with disabilities should play a bigger role in the UN's future development work.

Soledad stated that although the world body's new Sustainable Development Goals do take into account some of the needs of the disability agenda, more focus should be placed on reducing inequalities. Some solutions to reducing inequalities are ensuring that cities have accessible transport and public spaces.
