Preventing and responding to abusive and fraudulent labour recruitment

Many workers in today's time find work that is far away from their own. This leads to many companies preying on the workers that have migrated and do not know what is an acceptable condition for work in that country. This abuse happens because of the gaps in the governance of labour recruitment, especially internationally.

The International Labour Association (ILO) jointed forces with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to create the ILO's Fair Recruitment Initiative. This initiative aims to prevent human trafficking and forced labour within and across borders; protect workers, in particular migrant workers, from abusive and fraudulent recruitment practices; reduce the human, social and economic costs of labour migration and enhance development outcomes for migrant workers and their families, as well as for countries of origin and destination.

This will raise awareness among recruiters and employers on how to eliminate abusive and fraudulent practices within their companies. It will also help to strengthen national laws about labour and migration within countries.
