Soap and a toothbrush, a welcome relief in Nepal

The UNICEF hygiene kits provided to the families in Nepal who were devastated by the April earthquake are a happy sight. The kit includes a packet of clean toothbrushes, a tube of toothpaste, a water purifier, and a few bars of soap. Many families in Nepal lost their home and all their belongings to the earthquake, so the hygiene kit is a blessing to them.

One of the villagers voiced that there was a huge shortage of soap before the kits arrived. In order for the villagers to get relief supplies, hundreds were forced to walk hours to Baluwa. Community leader Prem Gurung voiced that the UNICEF supply came at the perfect time because of the lack in hygiene materials.

“They couldn’t save anything, not even a toothbrush,” Gurung says about his own home that was one of the many destroyed by the earthquake.
