Suicide attacks amongst women and children has dramatically spiked recently in Northeast Nigeria. It was made clear in a press release statement by a UN representative in Nigeria that children are not instigating these attacks, and they are first and foremost the victims. These children include those who have been kidnapped from their families and also those who have been separated by their families and are less protected.
One of the biggest risks from these attacks is that children will now be viewed as a potential risk among their communities, and not given the protection that they need. UNICEF is getting involved in the field to reduce the risk of children being treated as a threat to communities; UNICEF is finding the unaccounted for children and providing them the safety that they need to stay protected from these attacks.
