The United Nations Social Development Network (UNSDN) is a global platform for exchanging knowledge on social development topics. It champions the advancement of social policies and practices that supports an inclusive society. The platform highlights social issues affecting the marginalised communities DSPD serves and aims to raise awareness of programmes and actions by Member States, Academia and Civil Society that aim to improve the quality of life for all persons.
Accepted articles will be featured on the Stakeholder Engagement page and the homepage of UNSDN.org. This is your opportunity to share your work and reach out to the greater social development community.

Email submissions as a Word document to: ngo@un.org with ‘UNSDN submission’ as the subject line and include which article category or categories (if the policy/project impacts multiple social groups) you are writing about.
Author Guidelines
Length
- Articles must be 800 words or less
(This calls for brevity, clarity, simplicity of language and logical organization of material)
Language
- The UN standard is UK English. British spelling is used (i.e. colour, labour, programme);
Use UN terminology where appropriate (unterm.un.org);
Format and Style
- Purpose or main idea of the article should be indicated by the title;
- Paragraphs should not be numbered;
- Avoid abbreviations, acronyms, and footnotes;
- Ensure accuracy of data;
- Avoid criticism of any UN Member State, Government leader/s or any group or persons/countries/organizations;
- Use headings to guide readers;
- Articles must include the following:
- An outline of the innovative policy/practice/strategy the number of the Sustainable Development Goal(s) implemented;
- How and why it eradicated poverty in the community;
- A human interest story describing how the policy/project impacted an individual’s life;
- Lessons learned and recommendations for the future.
- Optional: You can include links for readers to find more information about the policy/project.
Photo/Image
- Contributors should also include a hi-resolution photo or image from their NGO/project related to the article. This photo or image should be associated with the content of the article and must be an originally created photo. Please include the photo credit to acknowledge the organisation and/or name of the photographer.
- Photos and images for use can also be found at unmultimedia.org/photo or from UN-affiliated flickr.com accounts. Photos or images that you would like to use that are not originally created by your organisation or by the UN must adhere to Creative Commons licensing.
- Please include a short caption to include with your photo.
Note: All articles will be reviewed, and approved for posting only if they adhere to the above guidelines. DSPD will post approved articles periodically throughout the year based on content.
