UN ESCAP pioneers widening access to energy services for rural poor in Asia- Pacific through innovative approach of Pro-poor Public Private Partnerships

 

Lack of access to electricity is a serious issue in the Asia-Pacific region, with around 628 million people lacking access to energy services such as lighting, cold storage, and energy for income generating activities.
The Pro-Poor Public-Private-Partnerships (5Ps) approach is a flagship business model promoted by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, (ESCAP), which works to enhance pro-poor economic development through access to energy services. The 5P approach works to ensure project sustainability by using community engagement and empowerment to ensure community ownership in respective field projects.
