UN sets up ‘child-friendly’ space at migrant rest area near former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia border

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has built a child-friendly space to support women and children leaving the violence in their home countries and moving through the Former Yugoslav, Republic of Macedonia. This child-friendly spaces are located in Gevgelija which is a southeast town that borders Greece.

“The space is providing a safe place for children to rest and play while families complete registration procedures. In addition, the mobile team is screening, identifying and referring children in need of specialized protection services,” UNICEF said in a press release.

UNICEF is urging authorities to recognize and treat all migrant children as children with rights regardless of their legal status or religious affiliation. These stations are being consistently monitored to ensure that these children are treated with care and protection.
