UNESCO's YouthMobile Initiative is an Organization that gives youth the skills to create mobile apps that are locally-relevant. Giving youth these skills also gives them confidence and a chance to reduce the chronic youth unemployment. The Organization offers training workshops and app competitions worldwide to get youth involved.
In South Sudan UNESCO was able to train 43 young South Sudanese to develop mobile applications based on an App Inventor curriculum from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
"There is an urgent need to establish a technology innovation hub for the youth, particularly in South Sudan, as a laboratory to research and incunae information and technology ideas," said the UNESCO Juba Head of Office and Country Representative, Salah Khalad regarding the Organization's goals.
